I know there are a few other threads like this already, but they're all either outdated or just dead. But I think I know how to get colored emoji in android system wide, something like MIUI. First off, the emoji PNGs are in framework-res.apk. I've tried that, but I believe the issues is that android doesnt change the emoji character to the PNG (the same way a "(:" would change to a smiley in sms). If i'm not mistaking there should be a string or something to "tell" android that the character is supposed to be a certain PNG, and i believe this is what MIUI does. My problem is I don't have the slightest idea of how to do it. I was hoping somewhere here could help me so that we could all get colored emoji, maybe even have devs put it in future roms :) .
